The purpose of the conference was to critically reflect upon the results of current studies and to pave the path for publishing an international monograph. The conference proceedings are divided into three chapters: 1. the importance of innovation in a knowledge-driven society and the consequences and risks of innovation resulting from convergence technologies. 2. regional and national innovation systems from the point of view of social capital. 3. a case study on independent inventors in the context of the importance of social networks for the successful commercialisation of their patents.

COBISS.SI-ID: 254954752The purpose of the research is to study development potentials, innovative actors and support institutions (e.g. incubators and technology parks), the way of their formation in regions, the cooperation and communication between them, especially from the point of view of knowledge transfer and work on common projects and from the view of the role od civil society and NGO. Theoretical basis is the the density of these institutions is important for creation and difusion of social capital. Civil organisations adn NGOs can be directly or indirectly involved into the local development projects.
