The book deals with nostalgic dimensions of veneration of the former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito in the present time. All these came to light with the use of combination of cultural-studies methods and »bottom-up« and »top-down« research approaches. The main finding of the study is that the very essence of tne nostalgia – in this case for Tito – lays in its utopical dimension, that is in the problamatization of the existent order with the narrative construction of the better past and wish for better future as well.

Given the great amount of research carried out, as well as several undergraduate and graduate programs, it is possible to argue that cultural studies is today well established in Slovenia, especially considering the relative smallness of the country and the newness of the discipline. In the present text, the author highlights several specificities in the Slovene political, cultural, and historical context that could serve as a point of departure for the development of a distinctively Slovene cultural studies practice.

This text represents an attempt of thinking the phenomenon of euroorientalism through linguistic optics and puts the apparently secondary or merely pragmatic question of the “European common sense language” (namely the English language) in the focus. If language is the constitutive element of the construction of any kind of “imagined community”, even its basis on which one can lay the apparently neutral, objective and positively valued “culture of a nation”, that the text from this point of view raises and puts into question the status of the English language as the “major European language”.
