We analyse changes and transformations of the relationship between youth and society in the recent two decades in Slovenia. Our thesis is that the position of youth has changed from being a symbolic representative of a societal change in times of socialism to a marginal generational group. The autonomy of young people has been considerably reduced after the process of narrowing of the welfare state has transferred majority of costs for social reproduction of youth from the state back to the family. Without economic or political representatives, young people have only few rights, privileges.

There are two basic dimensions of life in contemporary times, individualization and globalization. Young people are particularly susceptible to risking social exclusion as the traditional systems of personal and social security are disintegrating, which is particularly characteristic of the so called »societies in transition«. The author finds that forced depolitisation of the young causes important effects: during the recent decades, the young have been looking for individual and biographic solutions to structural problems and have thus fallen into the trap of disciplining and privatization.

The article deals with the phenomenon of new fatherhood in Slovenia, defined as more active involvement of men in family labour. According to empirical evidence, two models of fatherhood seem to prevail in Slovenia: the complementary (based on traditional division of family labour with passive involvement of fathers, but not based on the traditional notion of father as a bread-winner) and the supportive model (with more active involvement of fathers in family labour, however based on the notion of fatherhood as assistant/supportive parental role and motherhood as primary parental role).

This article tries to understand the construction of Slovenism using the notions of transposition, hegemony, discourse, antagonism and the logic of difference and equivalence. The article explores how the Krekist discourse (predominant discourse constructing Slovenism) was articulated and rearticulated in two historical periods. The first one is the period of national awakening, the second one is the period when Slovenia was entering EU. Applying Critical Discourse Analysis, the paper explores discourses that formed and influenced Slovenian national identification processes.

This paper presents results of a quantitative research among 320 alcohol policy stakeholders in Slovenia that were divided into 4 main groups: governmental organisations, public health organisations, non-governmental organisations and alcohol and related industry. We were studying stakeholders’ opinions on perceived efficiency and importance of particular alcohol policy measures in alcohol harm reduction and analyzing their particular interests in the regulation of alcohol related issues in the country.
