In the research we studied the differences between the students of primary and secondary schools in the perception of teacher competencies, their motivation and behaviour, and academic achievements. We were particularly interested in math and Slovene classes. The analysis shows certain key neuralgic areas that require improvement in the future. In terms of didactic management, a shift is required from classes mainly focused on the teacher to the model of the class building primarily on the student's activity in terms of project-based learning and co-operative learning.

In the field of education one can stumble upon numerous action research projects, where qualitative research approaches proved to be adequate and very successful. Combined with quantitative methods, the projects acquire greater methodological sharpness. The teachers are the bearers of changes of their own professional conduct, although, as researchers, they can stumble upon problems mainly because of inadequate methodological knowledge and insufficient interest in forming argumented, date based conclusions, which would be published in expert periodicals in the form of research reports.
