Andrej Mrvar (in co-operation with Vladimir Batagelj) worked on the further development of the program package for large network analysis – PAJEK. PAJEK is used widely in scientific and non-scientific areas all around the world. Its usage increased significantly after the monograph on PAJEK was published in 2005 by Cambridge University Press. In 2009 an expanded version of the monograph was published in Japanese language. All the documentation can be retrieved from the web page: http://pajek.imfm.si
F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 29243997Vasja Vehovar with the co-author studied the non-response in European Social Survey (ESS). The paper starts with a theoretical reflection on several designs for the detection of non-response bias that had been used in the last three ESS rounds. The most relevant problems related to these methods are considered, and the application of each of the procedures is (empirically) evaluated using information of past ESS surveys.
F.24 Improvements to existing system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 29215581The authors of the paper are dealing with the complexity of mobile telephony that is shaped by the associated social uses of technical, socio-cultural, economic and political circumstances of its development. The historical and institutional circumstances of the expansion of mobile telephony, based on empirical data have also shown structural trends of ICT expansion have been presented. The findings proved that mobile telephony has a central role in interpersonal communication.
F.30 Professional assessment of the situation
COBISS.SI-ID: 29120605The chapter discusses basic concepts in the field of social support network research and the characteristics of data used in the study Social integration of the elderly in Slovenia. A special stress is put on the description of a complex research design, which, in addition to the integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches, used inovative research solutions with regard to retrospective observation of social support networks. A special attention is also given to data quality control and more broadly to ensuring quality of interpretation and research process as a whole.
F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 28616797Involvement within the projects SOPRANO – Service-oriented Programmable Smart Environments for Older Europeans (FP6, 2007 – 2010, partner dr. Vehovar), ICT and Ageing (EU tender, 2008 – 2009, national coordinator dr. Dolničar) and COST 298: Participation in the Broadband Society (ESF and ARRS, 2005 – 2010, member of the management committee dr. Dolničar) enabled an in-depth and interdiciplinary study of the positive and negative aspects of introducing assistive technologies. The studied aspects influence the (non)acceptance of these technologies among the elderly and their informal carers.
