The paper addresses the issue of the formation of teachers in South-east Europe aiming at filling the regional gap in systemic comparative research in a traditionally rather disregarded field of higher education. Fields of collaborative research and collaborative knowledge construction are outlined. The overview and the typology of different modalities of collaborative work are presented, with the focus to optimal strategies for inter- and trans-disciplinary research in the areas of education research and cognitive science. The paper also discusses strategies for transdisciplinary work in time sensitive situations and lists main problems that such collaborations encounter.
