The purpose of research was to evaluate the competitiveness of tourist destination by exploring the relationships between destination quality, visitor satisfaction and their behavioural intentions. The structural model was tested on a sample of 1,056 visitors at four destinations in Slovenia. The empirical validation indicates that destination attributes affect the perceived quality, which directly and indirectly (through satisfaction) positively influences visitors’ behavioural intentions. Based on our findings we draw some implications for successful marketing of tourist destination.

Policy makers are increasingly recognizing the catalytic role of academics’ spin-off companies in a national economy, which derives from their innovativeness that result in new value generation, and job creation. Drawing from psychological and entrepreneurship research on intentionality, the authors propose a conceptual model of academics’ entrepreneurial intentions. They empirically test the model using structural equation modeling and a robust data set collected in two European academic settings to guide future research on this important topic.

In this study we survey, classify and synthesize streams of research that examine the role of national origin of products and services in consumption. We identify two major subsets of literature related to product nationality which adopt different theoretical perspectives and are based on different underlying mechanisms of consumer preference formation. We construct an integrative framework that allows the effects of product nationality on consumption to be treated holistically and thereby establish a firm basis for future empirical evaluations in the field.

The paper examines the role of inward FDI in firm selection process in the Slovenian manufacturing in the 1994-2003 period. The results of firm exit model show that incumbent firms experience a drop in their survival probability upon a foreign firm’s entry, in particular in case of greenfield FDI. The strength of the crowding-out effect decreases with the incumbent firm’s export propensity. There is no significant evidence that inward FDI would stimulate selection in the upstream supplying industries, whereas foreign firms’ activity reduces the exit probability of downstream local customers.

This paper employs stochastic cost frontier model to estimate and decompose the total factor productivity (TFP) growth of water distribution utilities in Slovenia. The evidence suggests that cost inefficiencies are present in water utilities, which indicates considerable cost saving potential. Overall, the average annual TFP growth is estimated to be only slightly above zero, which is a relatively poor result. Therefore, the introduction of an incentive-based price regulation scheme should be seriously considered in order to enhance the performance of Slovenian water distribution utilities.
