This paper deals with the media construction of the image of refugees in the Slovenian media, and in doing so deciphers the forms of articulation, performative discursive gestures and the consequences in the ideological field. It deals in particular with issues of the relevance of national identity.

The article analyses the relationship between citizenship education, philosophy for children and participation. It attempts to address the question of to what extent philosophy for children can contribute to citizenship education, as well as to what extent philosophy for children can help shed some light on the characteristics of citizenship education. The article shows that philosophy for children can contribute significantly to citizenship education, particularly when it comes to critical thinking and the virtues related to deliberative democracy.

From the viewpoint of policies that transcend the borders of nation states, at the same time as being formulated in a specific way in the Slovenian environment, the addressing of gender is progressive and informed.
