The article highlights, in the introduction, some important factors that may be crucial in more accurately determining the causes and nature of the current housing crisis. We argue the thesis that there has been a housing crisis in Slovenia for almost 20 years such that the current situation cannot be attributed entirely to the global financial crisis that broke out in 2008. The major characteristics of the housing market are presented and, against this background, the conclusion suggests that there has been no residential “bubble burst” in Slovenia.

Especially on the farms in hilly and remote parts of Slovenia, the issue of succession is of special concern and also poses a threat to providing social security to the elderly. When a farm is handed down to an heir, the heir assumes not only physical and human capital, but by tradition also a legal obligation to provide the former owner and his partner with accommodation, food, and care. The role and importance of owners’ perceptions in preserving intergenerational continuity on Slovenian mountain farms are studied.

The paper describes patterns of use in public open space such as parks, that indicate relationships between the design of parks and the detailed ways that users inhabit (or not) such places. It draws on an innovative combination of behaviour-mapping and GIS techniques as applied to urban parks in two European cities. The value of the research is in helping designers be confident that layouts proposed for intended uses will, in practice serve those uses (and users) well and be likely to be used as predicted.

The paper is focused on the usage-spatial relationship in public places addressing design as well as management of places. This methodological approach, which enables to measure the dynamic of patterns of uses in places, can be especially interesting, valuable and useful for the coast towns and settlements, where due to tourism the usage of open spaces vary all over the year and is particularly diverse and dynamic in summer time.

The Article deals with the performance of Slovenian spatial planning system on the local level and establishes a method for its evaluation. Thirteen indicators were defined to measure performance and data were collected with t a questionnaire and other sources. Indicators were then used to produce the typology of territorial governance capacity. We also tested whether the size and spatial characteristics of a municipality affected the final result of this classification. Finally, some suggestions for better spatial governance are proposed.
