Burekalism is a style of thought based on an ontological and epistemological distinction made between a population and place defined by the burek and a population and place not defined by the burek, or in other words: between “immigrants” and “Slovenians”. And further, burekalism is a style of domination of a population defined by the burek by a population not defined by the burek.

The central aim of this article is to define the place and position of the Slovenian-American writer Louis Adamic (1898–1951) in the international cultural consciousness at the beginning of the 21st century, and highlight the main aspects of the permanent relevance of his views with regard to the socio-cultural and political situation in the world. The author first presents the scope and main characteristics of the existing academic, professional and popular literature on Adamic, and defines the writer's place and position in Slovenian literary history. She then determines the relevance of some of Adamic's predictions in the works devoted to his native country. Currently even more interesting and relevant is his position on the issues of immigration, and the author therefore devotes special attention to this issue. The clearest evidence of Adamic's continuing topicality is his position on the then world situation and the prospect of its future development. The author confronts the main findings of her previous research with the findings of other authors (emphasising the most recent works), and thereby synthesizes the results of her review research.

The article forcuses on the specific type of politics of multiculturalism that can be observed in practice. Sweden was influenced by the need to recognise processes of ethnic heterogeneity. The decision to embark in a new political direction in 1975 was thoroughly deliberated on and justified by the state's interest in retaining immigrants in contrast to the "guest to-worker" model. Following this decision , multiculturalism was adopted in all social subsystems, including education, where the rights to active multilingualism and cultural heritage were placed at the forefront.
