Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase core protein I gene, a nuclear-encoded component of mitochondrial complex III, is associated with subcutaneous fat depth (SFD) and skeletal muscle lipid accumulation (SMLA) in a cattlemodel. Four promoter polymorphisms were identified and genotyped on approx250 Wagyu times Limousin F2 progeny. Statistical analysis revealed that two completely linked polymorphic sites, g.13487C)T and g.13709G)C (r2 = 1), were significantly associated with both SFD (p ( 0.01) and SMLA (p ( 0.0001).

COBISS.SI-ID: 2843272The review types of mitochondrial DNA in Lipizzaner horses enables the use of molecular phylogenetics methodology and the reconstruction of the history of maternal lines in Lipizzaner horses. Since this is a breed accumulating genetic pool of different breeds, which were used for the formation of the Lipizzaner these tools allow us to reconstruct the breeding procedures and assessment of relatedness of the breed with other breeds in this area.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2854280This review describes the mouse knockout models of cholesterol synthesis, together with human malformations and drugs that target cholesterogenic enzymes. Generally, the sooner a gene acts in cholesterol synthesis, the earlier the phenotype occurs. Humans with loss of function of early cholesterogenic enzymes have not yet been described, and in the mouse, loss of Hmgcr is preimplantation lethal. Together, these results indicate that the widely prescribed cholesterol-lowering strains are potentially teratogenic.
