Leader of the program receive the highest national award for scientific achievements, Zois award in 2009. In 2014 he received the Medal for services by the president of the Republic of Slovenia, which is very seldom awarded to scientists.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4330266Teams of students of the University of Ljubljana, under the direction and supervision of the members of the program group achieved great success in the competition of research projects in synthetic biology iGEM in 20092012. Slovenian teams that won this competition 3 times, 1 time the won the second place in the general classification, 5x they were finalists, 4x won in tracks and won several other awards, placing them as by far the most successful team in the history of this competition, which involved the world's most prestigious universities from all continents of the world. Success in this contest are extremely appreciated in the field of synthetic biology projects and were the basis for the creation of new research directions in the program group, while they served for the training of young researchers, most of which continued the doctoral training in Slovenia or in the best universities around the world (Rockefeller, Harvard, UCSF, ETH ..).

Among the protected achievements we can list preparation of new type of bionanomaterials, inhibitory protein domains for inflammatory processes, peptide inhibitors of inflammation, modifications of the biosynthetic pathways for the application in biotechnology.
