Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that is familial in 10% of cases. Missense mutations were found in the gene FUS ALS6 causing FUS-immunoreactive cytoplasmic inclusions and predominantly lower motor neuron degeneration.

Fullerenol C60(OH)24 (Frl) could protect against Dox-induced chronic cardio- and hepato- toxicity as well-known antioxidant, vitamin C . According to macroscopic, microscopic, hematological, biochemical, physiological, pharmacological, and pharmacokinetic results it was confirmed that Frl exhibits a protective influence on the heart and liver tissue against chronic toxicity induced by Dox.

Membrane nanotubes were recently described as a new principle of cell-cell communication enabling the exchange of vesicles, cell surface components, or calcium fluxes. For the first time the formation of nanotubes has been shown in T cells as a consequence of overexpressed cathepsin X. This results in enhanced activation of integrin receptor LFA-1 with subsequent cytoskeletal reorganisation forming a physically conected network of T lymphocytes through nanotubes.

We show that the Mab that recognizes an epitope on the cytokeratin 8 ectoplasmic domain inhibits plasminogen activation mediated by uPA in breast tumour cells. The ectoplasmic domain of CK8 acts as a binding site for plasminogen and uPA. CK8 Mab may prevent the binding of uPA to a designated CK8 motif and the consequent inhibition of plasmin generation resulted in enhanced cell adhesion to fibronectin and reduced invasion.

Increased production and deposition of amyloid beta-protein are key pathogenic events in Alzheimer's disease. X11 beta is a neuronal adaptor protein that binds to the intracellular domain of the amyloid precursor protein. We report here that X11 beta-mediated reduction in cerebral A beta is associated with normalization of both cognition and in vivo long-term potentiation in aged APPswe Tg2576 transgenic mice that model the Alzheimer's disease.
