Workshop with 30 participants was organized in collaboration between University of Ljubljana (UL) and Colorado State University on 23 and 24. August 2010. Scientist from UL and Colorado State University actively participated at this workshop. The workshop was very useful to evaluate current research results, exchange of opinions and to prepare future plans for common research program. COBISS.SI-ID: 3305082Preclinical studies have shown that the EGT with gene encoding IL-12 is effective treatment for different tumors. In 2010, we acquired the license for work with the GMOs in the open system (license No: 35419-1/2009/17) that allow us carry out the clinical study "Intratumorall injection of the naked DNA encoding human IL-12 and electrically-assisted delivery of the same amount of DNA into dogs cells". This enables us to transfer results of preclinical trials conducted on laboratory animals into clinical practice, i.e. to perform of highly-specialized treatment of certain tumor diseases in dogs.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3271802Conferences of the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) are organized every second year with the aim to present the latest scientific achievements in the field of animal genetics and genomics. Jelka Zabavnik Piano gave lecture on the 32. ISAG conference in which polymorphisms of the prion protein gene (PRNP) in a in goats with scrapie in Slovenia were presented. It is known that PRNP genotypes influence the susceptibility/resistance to scrapie in sheep. Its influence is also anticipated in goats; however the precise role of different PRNP genotypes has not yet been clarified.
