Functional imaging of prostate carcinoma is important especially for restagingof the disease in the case of biochemical relapse. The powerful imaging modality F-18 choline PET/CT (FCH PET/CT) improves assessment of clinically silent sites of recurrence. Despite rich vascularization and vascular communication between the penis and the prostate, metastatic involvement of the penis is relatively infrequent. We present a prostate cancer patient with unusual FCH uptake in a penile metastasis from prostate cancer. Metastasis from prostate adenocarcinoma to the bulbus and corpus of penis was identified with FCH during follow-up, 3 years after the initial diagnosis.

The treatment outcomes in ordinary clinical practice are definitely inferior to the ones reported in clinical trials. The now standard treatment with high-dose methotrexate with or without radiation therapy is sometimes too aggressive and therefore a careful selection on the basis of patients age, performance status and concomitant diseases of those eligible for such treatment is mandatory. According to our results from a retrospective study, radiation therapy should not be excluded from the primary treatment.

The true incidence and pathogenesis of late-onset neutropenia (LON) following rituximab are not fully understood. We evaluated the incidence of LON in 160 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients in complete remission following first-line treatment with rituximab-containing therapy. The incidence of LON was 26.9% (grade 1, 2, 3 and 4) and the incidence of severe LON (grade 3 and 4) was 7.5%. The risk factors for the occurrence of LON were not identified, and overall survival did not differ between patients who developed LON and those who did not. This study suggests that LON is a quite common complication to rituximab therapy.

Objective: To evaluate the role of genital pathogens in postoperative morbidity following diathermy loop excision of the transformation zone (LETZ) of the uterine cervix. Results: Genital pathogens were present in 463 of 788 (58.8%) cases. The most frequently isolated groups of microorganisms were group B ß-hemolytic Streptococcus, alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus, Enterococcus species, and coliforms. In patients with genital pathogens, postoperative pain was present in 298 (37.8%), discharge in 262 (33.2%), and bleeding in 236 (29.9%) cases. In patients without genital pathogens, 199 (25.3%) experienced pain, 181 (23.0%) discharge, and 143 (18.1%) bleeding. Conclusion: Genital pathogens are very common among patients with CIN and do not affect the occurrence or severity of pain, discharge, or postoperative bleeding after diathermy LETZ.

It is believed that chemotherapy (ChT) is ineffective in follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and Hürthle cell thyroid carcinoma (HCTC). The aim of our study was to find out whether neodjuvant ChT before thyroid surgery had any effect on the size of primary tumor in patients with FTC or HCTC. ChT was effective in patients with FTC and HCTC in 47% and 43%, respectively. The 5- and 10-year cause-specific survivals of the patients were 77% and 47%, while the 5- and 10-year disease-free intervals were 57% and 46%, respectively. ChT before surgical procedure may be effective in order to decrease the tumor size in FTC or HCTC in 45% of patients.
