In the survey, we found that the vast majority of neurons that innervate pulp are NGF-dependent nociceptors and that almost half of the neurons that innervate gingivomucosa are small IB4 binding nociceptors. Differences may partly explain the difference in the sensitivity of the tooth pulp and gingiva under normal and pathological conditions.
