Process bases on the infiltration of metal melt (matrix) in the pores of ceramic foam (hardening phase). Method of casting, sizing of mould, preheating of ceramic foam or mould, pouring temperature, use of insulating cover and vibrating enable complete filing the pores with metal. For manufacturing of composite plates the gravity casting and vibrating of total system during casting and solidification is used. Such composite plates are used in automotive, aircraft and military industry because composite plates have good mechanical properties, high breakthrough strength at low density and resistance to cutting.

COBISS.SI-ID: 7898708Thermal fatigue resistance is one of the most important characteristics of the materials subjected to rapid temperature changes, i.e., highpressure die casting, hot forging. Therefore the aim of the research was to determine the suitability of using the functionally graded materials (FGM) in applications subjected to thermal fatigue. A specially designed thermal fatigue test was utilized, developed to be used on servohydraulic testing machine, Gleeble 1500D. The FGM samples were prepared using a laser cladding method that ensures sound welds. The gradation in the properties was made by changing silicon content with varying welding parameters, and thus achieving gradation of the secondary carbide content. The test results show that the silicon distribution has large effect on thermal fatigue resistance; the resistance is decreasing with the increasing the content of silicon in the filler material. This was studied through the sequence of crack formation. The results of this study will contribute to prolonged use of die casting tools.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1128031To predict evolution of microstructure of aluminum alloys after deformation a numerical model based on the method of cellular automata (CA) has been developed and combined with the finite element model (FEM). The main objective of the combined FEMCA model is to enable numerical predictions of growth of grains in the subsurface layers of extruded bars that occurs after deformation before the quenching in the industrial hot extrusion production chain.
