Moving boundaries are associated with time-dependent problems and the position of the boundary has to be determined as a function of time and space. Recent research on the numerical method has focused on the idea of using a meshless methodology for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. The objective of this paper is to present an alternative approach to the conventional level set methods for solving two-dimensional moving-boundary problems. In our case we will use the multiquadrics radial basis functions. The solution process is stabilized by an adaptive greedy algorithm.

Seismic microzonation provides the basis for a site-specific risk analysis. It can be evaluated using the microtremor horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) method. The reliability of this approach depends on the results obtained by a verified seismological system. Changes in the transfer function of the systems affect the HVSR curve. The reliability of the seismic microzonation performed by such procedure becomes questionable. An algorithm was developed using two reference systems, where the influence of the transfer function on the HVSR curve by the tested system is evaluated.

The extent and the intensity of the mining operations impose impacts on the stresses and cause deformation changes in the rocks and in the coal seams on a broader area of excavations. A numerical model has been developede for in-depth analyses of the geomechanical processes that occur in the hanging wall, the footwall and in the coal seam during sub-level coal excavation. It is broadly applicable and highly relevant for analysing the intensity and the level of the caving processes in sub-level coal mining.

The present study shows the the normalized, undrained shear strength - plasticity index relationship, which was determined by considering the mineralogical properties of clays and their impact on the quantity and state of the water in the soils. It was found that there is a correlation between the normalized, undrained shear strength of cohesive soils and the plasticity index, but this relationship is not as simple as was suggested by previous studies.

New proposed method for analyzing and designing of cantilever retaining structures is based on ultimate limit states, but in contradistinction to those methods it take into consideration also condition of vertical force equilibrium at ultimate limit state. Proposed method is composed also from two new assumptions or variables, parameter a and passive pressure quotient at embedment depth Kb. Fundamental basis at research work is usage of the upper bound theorem of limit analyses. optimize the programme for monitoring the effects of these measures.
