Patent application is based on the bulk properties of granular elastomeric materials, in region where they exhibit maximum energy absorption properties, which means that they will absorb energy through viscous mechanisms. By proper selection of particle size and their size-distribution we can achieve that granular material acts as a liquid-like material, meaning, it acts as a pressurizing agent. Hence, elastomeric granular material simultaneously acts as pressurizing agent and as damping material.
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 12444187The invention relates to a railway system comprising at least one sleeper including at least one damping element and at least one rail fastened on the at least one sleeper. Damping elements are generally used to damp mechanical excitations by absorbing mechanical energy impacting on a structure. Besides applications related to trains and railway tracks to reduce vibrations during travel, applications of such damping elements include, for instance, supports for industrial machines to damp vibrations, fundaments in building construction to reduce susceptibility to earthquake damage and resonance.

The European Masters in Engineering Rheology – EURHEO offers an advanced integrative interdisciplinary education programme on Rheology and its applications to different Engineering areas. EURHEO combines the expertise of seven leading European Universities. Pursuant to the rules of the European postgraduate schools, each student participating in the EURHEO programme has to do research work in at least three universities in three countries. In 2011 there were three students attending second year of EURHEO programme at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. After finishing their studies one of the students got PhD position at the Case Western Reserve University, while another one the working position in BASF Corporation, BASF Coatings Department.

The purpose of the "16th International Workshop on Advances in Experimental Mechanics" is the overview of the status in the field of Experimental Mechanics, coordination and exchange of ideas on research and applications in this field, and possibilities of knowledge transfer in the industry environment. Besides oral contributions of eminent scientists from all around the world, also "younger" participants have opportunity to present their work, to exchange opinions and establish contacts with experts from other research institutions and companies.
