We present an open intelligent communication platform that can be used to support various usage scenarios related to future internet of things. Its purpose is twofold: to support fusion of large amounts of data, irrespective of their source or structure and to provide users or devices with semantically analysed and enriched data according to their needs and context. Using the platform, users are able to access enriched data, receive warnings and notifications about events recognised by the system. We present applications for the real time access line monitoring and alarm correlation that respond to telecommunications operators’ needs in the field of proactive line measurement in enabling the helpdesk and field technical teams to pinpoint the cause of service degradations.

COBISS.SI-ID: 9370964Blind computer users review and edit text with the use of screen reading software. The latter offers no information on the layout and the structure of written text and tables unless it is equipped with Braille keyboard. This paper describes an auditory interface which offers information on text layouts and alignments, table structures and dimensions, etc. by spatial manipulation of synthesized speech. Results of the user study showed that such interface can be equally accurate and significantly faster than the classical screen reader with Braille keyboard.
F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 9525332To investigate the music perception abilities of prelingually deaf children with cochlear implants, in comparison to a group of normal-hearing children, and to consider the factors that contribute to music perception. The music perception abilities of 39 prelingually deaf children with unilateral cochlear implants were compared to the abilities of 39 normal hearing children. To assess the music listening abilities, the MuSIC perception test was adopted. The influence of the child's age, age at implantation, device experience and type of sound-processing strategy on the music perception were evaluated. The effects of auditory performance, nonverbal intellectual abilities, as well as the child's additional musical education on music perception were also considered. As expected, there was a marked difference in the music perception abilities of prelingually deaf children with cochlear implants in comparison to the group of normal hearing children, but not for all the tests of music perception

COBISS.SI-ID: 9656404Design of a video processing circuit requires extensive understanding of digital systems and image processing algorithms. A typical design process involves different tools and languages, which make the task difficult to undergraduate students. We presented a teaching method using a web based tool for initial algorithm study and test bench design. The algorithm is later described in a high-level language, optimized and implemented on a custom programmable logic platform.
