In this article the effect of low amplitude DC magnetic fields on different types of thermometers is discussed. By means of a precision water-cooled electromagnet, the effect of a magnetic field on platinum resistance thermometers, thermistors, and type T, J, and K thermocouples was investigated, while thermometers were thermally stabilized in thermostatic baths.

The paper discusses the contribution of hysteresis to the total uncertainty of temperature measurement with industrial platinum resistance thermometers. The effect of hysteresis results in different resistance values at the same temperature point, depending on whether the temperature was increasing or decreasing. The hysteresis of different thermometers was determined using different methods and a comparison of results was made.

This paper deals with increasing interest in decision-making in conformity assessment in terms of effective costs associated with measurement, testing and incorrect decision-making. The work examines the CMCs of calibration laboratories and national metrology institutes with economic decision theory, in particular in terms of customer satisfaction and with respect to conformity assessment issues.

The article describes the project, which was coordinated by European Committee for Standardization, European Commission and European Free Trade Association and conducted by the group. Proficiency testing was considered as a core activity of the entire project, but additionally as a very appropriate platform for knowledge transfer of EU technicallegislation in selected sectors, metrology, testing andquality assurance in general.

Traditional measuring instrumentation focuses on measurements, based on generally accepted measuring methods, scales, standards, units. On the other hand, there are also many other important fields, where the user uses information obtained by measurements, for which there are (still) no commonly agreed, validated and comparable standards, units and reference scales (i.e. sensory metrology).
