In this article we present a novel user interface concept for camera phones, which provides a solution to one of the main challenges facing mobile user interfaces, that is, the problem of selection and visualization of actions that are relevant to the user in her current context. Instead of typing keywords on a small and inconvenient keypad of a mobile device, a user of our system just snaps a photo of her surroundings and objects in the image become hyperlinks to information. The proposed practical solution has been very well accepted by the international professional community.

COBISS.SI-ID: 7883604Prof. Leonardis gave several notable invited talks at renown universities worldwide; Karsruhe university being one of them. In the invited talk he presented the approach for hierarchical learning, which has been developed in recent years. The approach is based on the construction of hierarchical representations of visual concepts and it has become very renown in the scientific community. Such invited talks serve for popularisation of the proposed approach, as well as for increasing the visibility of our university and the Slovenian research area in general.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8288340Semantic networks that govern relationships among elements in archive databases were before the arrival of computers defined by collections of photographs. From the viewpoint of user interfaces, that enable the reading of relationships among images, atlases of Hanna Höch, Gerhard Richter and Henrik Olesen are used. A collection of declarations by Richter from book entitled Text adds to the comprehension of his collection of photos in his Atlas.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8148564The paper explains four curatorial concepts with strategies for exhibiting new media art installations and presents four exhibitions produced by ArtNetLab Society for Connecting Art and Science as corresponding case studies. For each an aspect of the changed relation to reality on account of the technological innovation is set as the theme that a selection of new media art works reflects upon by building interactive functional models for communication with the user.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8149076An algorithm aimed at automatic detection and digitalization of the rainfall signal recorded by the float based rain gauges on paper strip charts is presented. The algorithm was tested on 58 pluviograph strip chart images. A comparison between the data obtained with the proposed algorithm and the official data from the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia shows that the algorithm usually accurately detects the rainfall curve and consequently an accurate rainfall time series is obtained.
