The project, funded by the Environmental Agency - Office of Seismology and Geology, is aimed at contributing to the implementation of the new standard Eurocode 8 in practice. We dealt with civil engineering structures and foundations. A draft commentary of some parts of sub-standards was prepared. A RC structural system, consisting of plates, which are directly supported by the columns, was also investigated. Based on a systematic review of literature and experimental results for similar systems in the world, we formulated the basic instructions for earthquake-resistant design of the system.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5223265The principal investigator is one of the three editors of the most prestigious international jounal in the field of earthquake engineering Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics. In 2010, he processed 102 manuscripts submitted for publication. Editorial work provides an overview of research performed worldwide and also enables some influence on the directions of future research.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25358592A revision of the seismic design of the structure of the cooling tower for the Block 6 in the Thermal Power Plant Šoštanj was performed. It was found that the seismic response was unfavorable, since the structure was torsionally flexible with low ductility capacity. Several construction details, which improved the seismic response, were proposed (adequate reinforcement of columns and bottom ring of shell). The designer took them into account in further analyses of the structure. Several errors in the seismic analysis were reported which were later corrected by the designer.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5217633In the year 2009, the University of Ljubljana ordered the monitoring of the Veterinary faculty at Gerbičeva 60 in Ljubljana. The results of monitoring revealed continuous process of cracking and settlement of the structure. The results are consistent with geodetic measurements. With additional strengthening of the structure, its seismic resistance can be improved up to certain limit, but still not enough to fulfil basic requirements according to EC8 provisions.
F.30 Professional assessment of the situation
COBISS.SI-ID: 4961633Seismic design parameters for the Bauhaus building in Rudnik, Ljubljana were determined. The facility is located in an area with very poor soil conditions (soil type S1 in Eurocode 8). In the case of this type of soil, a special study should be made to determine the seismic input. Based on the results provided in the geotechnical reports a geotechnical model was prepared. It was analyzed using the program SHAKE. The soil factors as a function of the period of vibration were determined for two ground motion intensities. Using these factors the design spectrum for the location was defined.
