In this paper, an extensive CFD simulation of the exhaust stroke of a single-cylinder fourstroke ICE, including the entire exhaust manifold is described. The simulation involves the time-dependent flow of exhaust gases and the flow dynamics within straight exhaust pipe during the period when the valve is closed. The movement of the mesh follows the measured kinematics of the piston and the valves. The flow through the exhaust valve and the heat transfer along the exhaust pipe were influenced greatly by the effects of cold, fresh air breaking into the exhaust pipe in the period after the EVC.

This paper presents a novel Pelton turbine model for water hammer analysis. Water hammer phenomena have been investigated in Perućica high-head hydropower plant (HPP), Montenegro. Closure of the Pelton turbine distributors for the case of emergency shut-down and load rejection under governor control is modelled by two different closing laws. Dissipation torques in turbine housing and shaft bearings are considered in the model. Stop procedure of the turbine unit is also investigated. The agreement between computed and measured results is reasonable.

Presented in this work are the mixing times of stirred liquid in vessel using the Rushton turbine (RuT) and a patented double disk turbine (DDT). Mixing time was based on the pulse-response technique where a small quantity of water was put into liquid just below the level which represented the pulse while the change of liquid temperature represented the response. The results were obtained based on measurements by the experimental device and computational fluid dynamics.

Design and economic evaluation of a draft –tube reactor in waste-water neutralization using two-different mixing principles is presented. The first mixing principle is based on propeller mixing, while the second one is based on air-lift pumping in a draft tube. The process design procedure and the life-cycle cost evaluation of an individual mixing are presented in this work. The air-lift neutralization reactor was manufactured and has been successfully operating in the waste-water treatment of a food production plant.

The flow distribution of air and water among the parallel vertical tubes of a manifold system has been studied over a wide range of air and water flow rates. Data on a semicircle cross-section header of 1.22mm hydraulic diameter and three T-junctions with the corresponding side arms of 0.61mm hydraulic diameter are presented. The following discernible flow regimes are considered: bubbly, bubbly to slug, slug, semi-annular and churn flow. There are systematic trends on phase separation that depend on flow regime and on the T-junction location.
