F.08 Development and manufacture of a prototype
COBISS.SI-ID: 11180315To address the needs at high Reynolds numbers, a large-scale pipeline apparatus at Deltares, Delft, The Netherlands, has been used for original unsteady skin friction experiments including acceleration, deceleration and acoustic resonance tests. The apparatus consists of a constant head tank, a horizontal 200 mm diameter pipe of changeable length (44 to 49 metres) and a control valve at the downstream end. In addition to standard instrumentation, two distinctive instruments have been used: hot-film wall shear stress sensors and a PIV set-up for measurement of unsteady flow profiles.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 11336219The measurements of hot water temperatures in supply and return piplines, pipe insulation, air in channel, soil and environment air, moisture and thermal conductivity of the soil and heat flux throughout the soil were carried out. Numerical computation of the heat conduction throughout the old insulation of pipe indicated that the thermal conductivity of insulation is not changed providing it is dry and not damaged. In the case of wet insulation due to water leaking, the thermal conductivity of insulation increased up to 8-times (heat loss up to 4-times).
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 11645979Primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) are sleep-related breathing disorders with the same pathogenesis but different levels of symptom severity and influence on general health. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was used to investigate the effect of the human upper respiratory tract (URT) geometry on internal pressure. The 3D model was reconstructed from computed tomography (CT) obtained in awake adults with OSAS, snoring problems and control patients. The results for patients with OSAS show a strong correlation between pharyngeal narrowing and pressure drop.
F.22 Improvement to existing health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 11553819The construction of the process apparatus for coating of particles using the swirl technology is improved. Better uniformity of the coating film, robustness of coating and heat transfer are reached by the combination of vertical transport of particles and swirl air flow for fluidization.
