The tests showed high ductility of the high strength steel (HSS) connections, although steel S690 expresses low ductility. The experimental bearing resistance was compared to the Eurocode, which for HSS in general gives conservative results, mostly due to too bearing resistance model. The upper limit of bearing stress that is set to limit the hole elongations, corresponds to the limit for net cross-section resistance. A new bearing resistance formula with a modified definition of resistance model is presented. It gives more accurate results and distinguishes between different types of failure.

Development of stable, locking free finite element for analysis of solids at finite deformations is one of the main research topics in computational mechanics. Newly developed elements has better performances in shear dominated, incompressible regime than comparable elements. Additionally, an improved resistance with respect to development of spurious modes that can spoil the numerical result has been observed for the new element.

Numerical modeling of contact between two deformable bodies is one of the hardes problem in computational mechanics. Paper presents an automatic differentiation based approach to exact sensitivity analysis of frictional contact problems in the augmented Lagrangian formulation. Augmented Lagrangian formulation leads to exact solution of contact problem. The method is a part of gradient based optimization of contact problems.

Problem of high energy use for heating in Slovenian buildings is analyzed with exergy and energy analysis. Results are compared and discussed, and the most effective solutions are defined. Three cases of exterior building walls are located in 3 climatic zones in winter conditions. If the comparison is made only on the energy and exergy supply, the results are the same. Exergy calculations enable us to analyze how much exergy is consumed in which part, from boiler to building envelope. The most effective solution is holistic approach.

Free convection along both sides of a vertical flat plate is studied within the framework of the laminar boundary-layer theory. Assuming that the temperature of the fluid far away from the wall is known on both sides, we determined the heat transfer coefficients as well as the corresponding Nusselt numbers.
