There are many young researchers involved into program activities: I. Milošev supervises four PhD theses (M. Topolovec, UL, Biomedicina, 2008- , P. Rodič, UL, FKKT, 2010-, G. Žerjav, FKKT, UM, 2012-, and B. Volarič, FKKT UL, 2013-) and co-supervises one PhD thesis (V. Levašič, Biomedicina, UL, 2011-). A. Kokalj supervises one PhD thesis D. Peca, FKKT UL, 2013-) and A. Lesar one PhD thesis (S. Tušar, FKKT UL, 2012-). Furthermore, M. Gaberšček and R. Dominko are supervising each 3 YR, while Jamnik and Bele are mentors to two/one YR. As a whole, 4 YR successfully finished their Ph.D. Studies in 2013: A) ŽNIDARŠIČ, Andrej. Funkcionalizacija nanocevk s posameznimi molekulami in mikroskopska karakterizacija za nove senzorske naprave : doktorska disertacija. Ljubljana: [A. Žnidaršič], 2013. 124 str., ilustr. [COBISS.SI-ID 269380864] Award: Maksa Samec award for best Ph.D. B) NADRAH, Peter. Funkcionalizacija poroznih silikatnih delcev za nadzorovano sproščanje učinkovin = Functionalization of porous silica particles for controlled release of drugs : doktorska disertacija. Ljubljana: [P. D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 36680197R. Dominko is coordinator of EU FP7 project EUROLIS (partners MPI Potsdam, Volvo, Renault, Saft etc, project value: 3.7 mio EUR) I. Milošev was the project leader for one basic project (J1-4136). For ERA-NET project (Surfuncti) and bilateral project (SLO-ARG) she was the project leader at the Slovenian side. M. Gaberscek is the Slovene coordinator of a FP7 project EUROLIION.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 5252122M. Gaberšček and I. Milošev co-organized 4th Regional Symposium on Electrochemistry- South-East Europe (RSE-SEE) held in Ljubljana in 26-30 May, 2013. RSE-SEE is the initiative of nine national societies (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro) established primarily to bring together scientists from the SEE region, but many scientists from other countries participate at the these conferences. Previous symposia were held in Croatia (2008), in Serbia (2010) and in Romania (2012). The 2013 conference in Ljubljana hosted about 200 participants form 25 countries. Five plenary lectures and nine key-note lectures given by internationally distinguished speakers contributed to the attractiveness and importance of the RSE-SEE. There were 97 oral and 90 poster presentations at the conference, and 18 oral presentations at the student satellite meeting.

COBISS.SI-ID: 267020032In July 2013 the patent application (no. 61/842,025) entitled “Hybrid sol-gel compositions and corrosion-resistant coatings based upon same” (authors P. Rodič and I. Milošev), which relates to hybrid sol-gel compositions and the use of such compositions as corrosion-resistant coatings for metals and alloys.
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 270702471. M. Gaberšček was awarded Zois award (the highest national award) for achievements in the field of materials science. 2. I. Milošev, Peter Rodič, Barbara Kapun and Jernej Iskra were awarded the “Best innovation with business proposition” for the contribution “"Corrosion protection with hybrid sol-gel ocoatings: TMZ coating – the most recent approach of protection”” at the 6th Technology Transfer Conference and Innovation Day of the Chamber of Commerce. 3. a) dr. Sebastijan Peljhan was awarded the Maks Samec award for chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology University of Ljubljana. Award was given for the dissertation entitled “Simulations of corrosion inhibition mechanisms of benzotriazole as copper corrosion inhibitor in chloride media” supervised by dr. A. Kokalj from the Department of Physical and Organic Chemistry of the Jožef Stefan Institute. b) The same award but in the field of chemical engineering was awarded to dr. Andrej Žnidaršič (mentor: Miran Gaberšček).
