dr. Robert Dominko and dr. Anton Kokalj were awarded the Pregl Awards for important scientific achievements in the field of chemistry and related sciences in 2012. dr. Kokalj received the award for important scientific achievements in the field of physical chemistry that are associated with theoretical studies of physico-chemical processes on the surfaces of transition metals and the development of software for graphical display of crystal- and molecular-structures and for the analysis of results of molecular simulations. His basic research is closely related to important technological processes in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis and corrosion inhibition and as such is very important for future industrial applications. Dr. Dominko was awarded for his extraordinary achievements in the field of lithium battery research. He invented several new materials for potential use in lithium batteries. He has also invented several new in-situ techniques for monitoring processes occurring during operation of lithium cells. His work has been widely recognized, as evidenced by the fact that he was selected the leader of the most important current EU project in the field of Li-sulfur batteries.
