The study reports the inkjet printing of Pb(Zr0.53Ti0.47)O3 thick films. An ink consisting of particles with a median size of 170 nm and a narrow size distribution, in a dispersion of water and glycerol, and with a low viscosity and surface tension, was used for the fabrication of thick films by piezoelectric ink-jet printing on platinized alumina substrates. A local piezoelectric response of 15 pm/V was measured in the ink-jet–printed PZT thick film by piezoresponse force microscopy.

P-type conducting oxide CuAlO2 was synthesized froma stoichiometric mixture of nano-boehmite AlOOH.0.059H2O and Cu2O upon heating at 1100 oC in argon. This approach is more efficient than the classicla solid-state synthesis from the oxides. Upon sintering the powder compacts at 1100 oC for 2 h in air the ceramic with 86 % relative density was prepared, which can be used as a sputtering target.

X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses showed that the as-milled monoclinic Nb2O5 consisted of large monoclinic particles together with orthorhombic nanocrystals. The mixed-phase Nb2O5 reacted with the carbonates to form the KxNa1-xNbO3 solid solutions with varying K/Na molar ratios. In contrast, the crystal structure of the orthorhombic Nb2O5 was not modified by the milling process. It reacted with the carbonates to form a homogeneous solid solution. The study confirmed a significant influence of the Nb2O5 crystal structure on the homogeneity of the KNN and, consequently, on its densification.

In the chapter mixed-metal precursor solutions containing metal alkoxides and/or other soluble compounds in organic solvents of selected exemplary systems are discussed, namely the lead-based perovskites, such as Pb(Zr,Ti)O3, alkali-earth titanates (BaTiO3, SrTiO3) and alkaline niobates and/or tantalates ((K,Na)NbO3, K(Nb,Ta)O3, KTaO3).
