The paper describes the development of magnetic phases during atmospheric plasma spraying. The forming magnetic phases are CoTi-substituted Ba ferrite and Co ferrite. They both contribute to the magnetic properties required for the application of the respective coatings in microwave absorbers.

In this contribution we presented the final conclusions of the studies devoted to the development of Ba hexaferrite electromagnetic absorbers with spraying technologies. The most important finding was that it was possible to retain the required crystallinity of Ba hexaferrites using optimized powder processing and spraying parameters.

In the contribution the concept of the hydrothermal synthesis of superparamagnetic barium hexaferrite particles was proposed, which takes into consideration the high pH values used during the synthesis.

Secondary re-crystallization is one of the most important processes in hydrothermal syntheses. In this process individual nanoparticles rapidly grow at the expense of the other particles. The process makes the control of the particle size very difficult. In the article, the new procedure was published. The procedure is based on the complete blocking of the secondary re-crystallization using the addition of oleic acid. The synthesized nanoparticles were hydrophobic and can be dispersed in nonpolar carrier liquids to prepare hexaferrite-based ferrofluids for the first time.
