Spin-out high-tech Nanos Scientificae d.o.o. company was established to facilitate transfer of research results of the Research Program P2-0089-0106 to praxis. The company contracts from the Jožef Stefan Institute the rights to use knowledge and skills for preparation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles developed at JSI in the framework of the Program group. The company will market the knowledge related to synthesis and functionalization of nanoparticles, especially in biomedicine and photonics.
F.20 Company spin off
Applied projects in support of development of new drug and methods for its characterization in direct financing of Lek Pharmaceuticals d.d. (Sandoz) were successfully finished in 2013. The drug is based on iron oxide nanoparticles. In the framework of the projects new characterization methods were developed and validated for magnetic measurements and measurements of the nanoparticles’ inorganic cores.
F.01 Acquisition of new practical knowledge, information and skills
The new synthesis method of composite nanoparticles was presented in the invited lecture at the Materials Science & Technology 2013 Conference. The method is based on coating magnetic spinel ferrite shell, such us iron oxide maghemite, onto the core nanoparticles of different functional materials in their aqueous suspensions. The key is in control of the supersaturation during co-precipitation of metal ions, which enables exclusively heterogeneous nucleation of the product and growth of the ferrite shell on the core nanoparticles.

COBISS.SI-ID: 27366439The new composite nanoparticles were presented in the invited lecture at the 1st International Scientific Conference on Nanomaterials & Applications. The nanoparticles combine soft-magnetic maghemite shell with platelet hard-magnetic core of BaFe12O19. Due to direct coupling between the both magnetic phases the composite nanoparticles display strongly increased energy product, a figure of merit for the quality of magnets.

COBISS.SI-ID: 17250070The invitation to this interview is related to publication of the article on ferromagnetic liquid crystals published in Nature. The topic was related to the importance of this scientific discovery for science, the involved scientists and the society. The way to a scientific discovery was presented in a popular way and in connection to the problems of the research work. According to the popularity of this TV emission we assume this interview as a good promotion of science.
