Spin-out high-tech Nanos Scientificae d.o.o. company (http://nanos-sci.com/) was established to facilitate transfer of research results of the Research Program P2-0089 to praxis. The company contracts from the Jožef Stefan Institute the rights to use knowledge and skills for preparation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles developed at JSI in the framework of the Program. The company will market the knowledge related to synthesis and functionalization of nanoparticles, especially in biomedicine and photonics.
F.20 Company spin off
The patent application legally protects the product – a photocatalyst for water purification in suspensions, which is magnetically retractable, as well as the procedure for its preparation. The developed material differs from already known materials in the application of magnetic carriers in the form of agglomerates of superparamagnetic nanoparticles. The application of the agglomerates enables good efficiency in the magnetic separation. The patented procedure for the coating of TiO2 layers on solid substrates using the hydrolysis of TiOSO4 is appropriate for the preparation of different materials for various applications. New products are being development based on this patent in the Cinkarna Celje company.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 23140391The method for magnetic separation of yeast biomass from sparkling wines was patented. The method is based on the adsorption of the magnetic nanoparticles at the yeast cells followed by magnetic separation of the biomass from the wine. The procedure for international patent protection is in progress. We received 2nd award at 4th International Conference of Technology Transfer in Ljubljana for this innovation. The procedure has been presented in several professional publications dedivacated to winery abroad (VigneVini (Italy), Vineyard&Winery Management (California)).
F.09 Development of a new technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 24285223Applied projects in support of development of new drug and methods for its characterization in direct financing of Lek Pharmaceuticals d.d. (Sandoz) were successfully finished in 2013. The drug is based on iron oxide nanoparticles. In the framework of the projects new characterization methods were developed and validated for magnetic measurements and measurements of the nanoparticles’ inorganic cores.
F.06 Development of a new product
COBISS.SI-ID: 27331367The new synthesis method of composite nanoparticles was presented in the invited lecture at the Materials Science & Technology 2013 Conference. The method is based on coating magnetic spinel ferrite shell, such us iron oxide maghemite, onto the core nanoparticles of different functional materials in their aqueous suspensions. The key is in control of the supersaturation during co-precipitation of metal ions, which enables exclusively heterogeneous nucleation of the product and growth of the ferrite shell on the core nanoparticles.
