In this paper the authors presented a new pitch frequency (F0) determination and epoch (pitch period) marking procedure CPDMA using merged normalized forward-backward correlation. A set of criteria was proposed to objectively evaluate the performance of any evaluated PDA/PMA or voicing detection algorithm. The PDA and PMA performances achieved with the proposed CPDMA algorithm significantly outperformed the performance of the PRAAT toolkit in all its three considered configurations.

The authors presented a novel feature for online speech/music segmentation based on the variance mean of filter bank energy. The energy variance in narrow sub-band showed to be greater for speech than for music. The radio broadcast database and the BNSI database were used for discrimination and segmentation ability evaluation. Analysis of the speech/music discriminative ability shows an average error rate below 10% for broadcast material. It outperforms other features used by more than 8%.

A new data-driven method was proposed for the induction of inflectional morphology into language modeling. The idea of using subword units was examined. Decomposition was proposed which yields the minimum entropy of the training corpus. This entropy was approximated by using N-gram models. The subword models improved the applicability of the language models for a sparse training corpus. The results showed that subword-based models improved speech recognition WER compared with standard models.

Based on the fact that there are many cases of infirm persons, who are able to control only their eye muscles, a low-cost mobile device for electronic eye gesture recognition has been designed as a human-machine interface, which enables the control of different applications and home appliances by user’s eye gestures by the IR and Bluetooth wireless technology. Furthermore, a newly designed adjustable head mounted EOG acquisition device with the permanent surface electrodes is proposed.

This paper presents research results from the field of automated generation of verification model. The model checker Spin was used for formal verification. The authors have implemented most of their research results in the tool named sdl2pml in order to avoid human errors while building the verification model. This tool is used for automated generation of the model. The authors presented its architecture and compare the implemented features with other existing tools. Additionally, they demonstrated its use on a real-life specification of an IUA protocol which is part of the SI3000 softswitch.
