Using an open source GIS environment GRASS we developed a software tool for radio coverage calculation based on mathematical models such as OkumuraHata, WalfishIkegami and model 9999 as well as on raytracing algorithms. The tool is suitable for radio network planning in various mobile and wireless networks including GSM, UMTS, WiMAX and LTE. Currenty the tool is used and tested also by Mobitel. The tool is based on a fully modular aproach, enabling upgrading. It is independent of any particular technology and suitable for parallel, multi processor execution. Modules with propagation models are used in the software tool for inverse channel modelling to dynamically build radio environment map (REM) and locate sources of radio signal.
F.06 Development of a new product
COBISS.SI-ID: 24502055Using custom developed sensor node platform VESNA, which represents a modular and fully flexible platform that can meet the requirements of diverse applications, we developed a sensing node capable of energy detection based spectrum sensing in ISM and UHF frequency bands. Such sensor nodes are used for the depoyment of the open testbed LOGaTEC on the public lighting infrastructure for real world outdoor experimentation in the area of cognitive radio and networking in the frame of FP7 project CREW. This testbed will be used also for other experiments in the CREW project, providing distributed spectrum sensing. The VESNA platform forms the baseline for further research and development work in our other international and national projects.

COBISS.SI-ID: 24876583We participate or participated in several European projects (FP5 HeliNet, FP6 CAPANINA, FP6 SatNEx I and II, FP7 AgroSense, FP7 PlanetData, FP7 BalkanGEONet, FP7 CREW, ESA PECS SatProSi, COST IC0802, COST IC0902 and COST IC1101). The result of participation in international projects is transfer of expert knowledge and new scientific achievements in the fields of wireless communications, cognitive radio networking and internet of things to the national environment through industrial projects (we cooperate with Telekom Slovenije, Mobitel, XLAB, Cosylab, Iskratel, Špica) and through pedagogical and supervisory activities at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School also to the postgraduate studies of information and communication technologies.
