COBISS.SI-ID: 2885199Dr. Metka Filipič participated at the international UNESCO conference »Emerging Pollutants in Water« July, 9. 11. 2013, in Belgrade. The aim of the conference was presentation the newest results of the studies concerning occurrence, elimination and environmental and health risk assessment of contaminants in water environment that are not yet regulated by international standards. In the invited lecture entitled »Environmental occurrence and potential adverse effects of the residues of cytostatic drugs to aquatic organisms« she presented new data on their occurrence in surface and wastewaters and the results of ecotoxicity testing of selected cytostatics, which enable environmental risk assessment and in the future introduction of appropriate measures for their surveillance and reduction. The presented results were obtained in the frame of the FP7 project Cytothreat.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2865999International Summer School (ISS) on the theme of modern approaches in research and treatment of cancer was the 6th in a row of international ISS-Piran. This one was carried under the leadership of Prof. Tamara Lahr Turnšek at the Marine Biology Station of the National Institute of Biology in collaboration with the Society for Tissue Engineering of Slovenia. It was organised as a postgraduate school for the students of Biomedicine at Medical Faculty of UL (5 ETC), but was also attended to attract students of biosciences and similar fields of natural sciences as well as for all others willing to gain the knowledge and experiences in oncology. The subjects included tumour biology, tumour biomarkers and targets, cancer and stem cells and translational research in he filed of caner in the mornings as lectures and as hands on practical approach in excremental oncology n the afternoon. On the last day the participants took written exams and presented their related projects. We prepared the book of abstract from the abstracts that was printed in the edition of NIB.
