The microalga Chlorella vulgaris was cultured in a combined medium obtained by mixing standard Jaworski medium with a solution from the modified Solvay process. Cell number, pH and nitrogen content were monitored throughout growth. A combination of grinding, microwave treatment and sonication proved to give the best lipid extract yield. The degradation model may be readily applied to an assortment of thermal algal processes, especially those relating to renewable energy.
F.12 Improvements to an existing service
COBISS.SI-ID: 35597317In terms of invention, the process belongs to B67D1/00 according to the international patent classification, and to A01N59/00 according to the European patent classification, The device comprised from two separate segments: the service docking station on the bank of the water body and the mobile working platform which floats freely and is able to autonomously cover extensive water surfaces. The process and device according to invention "Process and device to control harmful cyanobacteria blooms" solve the problem of massive occurrence of cyanobacterial growth which is serious threat to human and environmental health since the co-occurring biosynthesis of toxic, genotoxic and carcinogenic compounds.
F.06 Development of a new product
COBISS.SI-ID: 260887040This original and unique scientific monograph is a comprehensive overview of the historical aspects, functions and impact of cianobacteria, which are an overall present and important risk factor in water environment. These are cosmopolitan organisms and their appearance is closely linked to eutrophication, being a consequence of agricultural, industrial pollution and other excessive usage and abuse of water resources. The monograph is not only an interesting textbook and a hanbook for natural science researchers, but also presents an updated reports of novelties worldwide in the field of ecotoxicology of cianobacteria.
C.01 Editorial board of a foreign/international collection of papers/book
COBISS.SI-ID: 3852136Due to granted SLO-Ita Interreg project GLIOMA (in 2011) with Italian researchers (prof. Beltrami, dr. Casselli), the PI of this project T.L.T. was invited to the meeting to the University of Udine to give an invited lecture for doctoral medical students and clinicians on the subject of various types of interacting (stem) cells within the tumour mass effecting its growth as well as on the role of proteolysis in these processes.
B.05 Guest lecturer at an institute/university
COBISS.SI-ID: 2547023Dr. Metka Filipič was an invited speaker at three conferences (4th Conference YUCOMAT 2012 in v Herceg Novi, 4, 27. Bitenc Food Days 2012 in Ljubljana, published in Proceedings of Nanotechnologies and Nanofood and on the Symposium of Slovene Pharmaceutical Society (SFD) in Portorož). The subject of these lectures were toxicological characteristics of nanomaterials and the safety of their application in particular in food processing. The Talk in SFD Symposium was published in Farmacevtski Vestnik.
