One of our most important achievements in 2009 is success of our project proposal at the public call and establishment of EN-FIST Centre of Excellence. NMR centre of excellence for research in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and physical substances was selected as one of the eight consortia that will be funded for the period from 2009 to 2013 (85% of EU funds and 15% of the national budget). EN-FIST centre of excellence has focused into two priority areas in the fields of health and life sciences and advanced new synthetic metallic and non-metallic materials.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
In collaboration with Lek Pharmaceuticals, Ljubljana, several new fluorine-containing trinems were prepared which displayed broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4250906In the lecture we presented our later results about peptidyl-prolyl isomerases (PPI) catalyze cis/trans rotation around Xaa-Pro peptide bond. The Pin protein from psychrophilic archaeon C. symbiosum (CsPin) is the first PPIase from the Archaea Kingdom known to date. In our work, the high-resolution 3D structure of CsPin protein was determined from NMR data. The overall fold of CsPin could be described as 'parvulin' fold and reveal structural similarities to other PPIases belonged to the same family.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4111642Ph.D. thesis was focused on studies of degradation of atorvastatin under conditions of oxidative environment. Atorvasation is involved in biosynthesis of holesterol in our bodies. The isolation of oxidative degradation products was carried out on a reversed-phase chromatography. The liquid chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer (LC-MS), high resolution MS (HR-MS), 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy methods were applied for the structure elucidation.
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 248428288NMR spectroscopy has recently undergone a great development that influences its everyday use in research and development activities in academic institutions and in companies. Symposium 'Magnetic Moments in Central Europe (MMCE) – Tutorials and frontiers' involves primarily researchers from Central Europe. MMCE 2009 represented a new step towards an increased cohesion and cooperation of Slovenian NMR centre with researchers from academia and business sector from central Europe. It has also increased recognition of our NMR centre as the best European scientists have participated at the event.
