Diazenes are often applied as convenient building blocks that enable a simple and selective introduction of the nitrogen functionality into a variety of organic molecules. The aim of the lecture was to demonstrate the usefulness and versatility of diazenes and their analogues for synthetic purposes as well as to discuss several results about their biological activity. Several diazenes were found to inhibit the growth of the different tumor cells including cisplatin-resistant sublines. The discussion at the end of the lecture has shown that there was a big interest in application of certain compounds as iron chelators. Some preliminary experiments in this respect are currently under investigation by Des Richardson’s research group at the University of Sydney, Australia.

COBISS.SI-ID: 35202565The textbook presents the most important topics in organic chemistry and covers all the contents of a curriculum planned for the gymnasium (secondary school). It is written in a way that students are encouraged to think and observe experiments as well as the world around us. Specialty is in the textbook selection and order of priorities of reading material, especially since there are collected chapters on the nomenclature and isomerism, and the basics of organic reactions. In addition, specially designed form is provided for additional and special knowledge’s and particular attractions. Individual chapters provide enough experiments and photos that bring the content closer to the students, even to those who have to study the content by themselves. Textbook tries to attract the attention of the reader with some interesting facts from everyday life and the developments in modern chemistry, which are linked to the specific content.
