The Nobel Prize for Physics was shared by Professors François Englert and Peter W. Higgs for “for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider”.

Particulars is a spin-out company of Jozef Stefan Institute the largest and most prominent Slovenian research institute. The company was founded by 6 senior researchers from Department of Experimental Particle Physics. The group has a long record of using the transient current technique for studies of semiconductor particle detectors and dosimeters and pioneered several analysis/application techniques for determination of various device/semiconductor parameters.

Establishment of the SiGNET cluster and its adherence to the global production Grid in the scope of the EGEE, NorduGrid and WLCG projects: Processing of LHC data requires a major breakthrough in computing with implementation of Grid technologies. We joined the effort by participating in the Infrastructure Projects of the 6th FP EU program EGEEI, EGEEII in EGEEIII and now EGI/INSPIRE, which have established a global production Grid under the coordination of CERN. We Gridenabled our SiGNET computer cluster (4200 CPUs, 2.5 PBy RAID mass storage) on two platforms: NorduGrid and LCG. We established ourselves as the local EUGridPMA certificate authority. In 2007 the SiGNET cluster was certified and accepted as a WLCG Tier2 center. The SiGNET centre is also a constitutive member of the Slovenian national Grid initiative SLING/NGI and supports the SLING infrastructure together with Arnes within the European project European Grid Initiative (EGI).

Lepton Photon is a renowned biennial HEP conference series, alternating with ICHEP. These two series are the only ones sponsored by the IUPAP C11 commission. We acquired the organization of the conference in 2015 at the ICHEP meeting in 2012 in fierce competition with our Italian colleagues (Venice).
