In 2011 three young researchers have obtained their PhD degrees on the topics related to the research topic of the project Nanoporous materials. Mentors to these three post-graduate students were researchers from the project team. Mojca Rangus obtained her PhD degree from solid-state physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana, in April. The title of her thesis was 'The study of structural characteristics and formation of microporous and mesoporous materials'. Her mentor was dr. Gregor Mali. Tina Ukmar obtained her PhD degree from pharmaceutical sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, in September. The title of her thesis was 'A study of the mechanisms of incorporation and release of a model drug from ordered mesoporous silicates'. Her mentor was prof. Odon Planinšek and her comentor was dr. Gregor Mali. Saša Cecowski obtained her PhD degree from chemical sciences at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, in October. The title of her thesis was ' Functionalization of zeolites and mesoporous materials by manganese'. Her mentor was prof. Venčeslav Kaučič.

COBISS.SI-ID: 257913856In October we organized the 4th Slovenian-Croatian Symposium On Zeolites and the kick-off meeting in the frame of STOREHEAT ERA-NET project at National Institute of Chemistry. The invited conference speakers were renowned Slovenian and foreign scientists and managers from Europe and America, working in the field of zeolites in catalysis, Prof. Ferdi Schüth, director of Max-Plack institute, Prof. David Serrano, director of the IMDEA Energy Institute in Spain, Prof. Nevenka Rajic, from the University of Belgrade, Prof. Juergen Eckert, from University of Southern Florida, and Dr. Rainer Albert Rakoczy, the leader of the section for zeolites in German industrial chain Süd-Chemie AG. Some representatives of distinguished Slovene and Croatian institutions also attended the symposium, among these dr. Mario Šiljeg, director of the Croatian Agency for Environment, who had his scientific training in the year 2004 at the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry and Technology of the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana, prof. dr. Anton Meden, dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana, and prof. dr. Iztok Arčon, dean of the Faculty for postgraduate studies at the University of Nova Gorica. At the introductory meeting and workshop of the ERA-NET project STOREHEAT the participants were the representatives of the SILKEM d.o.o. company, which is the only company in Slovenia that is making zeolite materials for Slovenian and world market. The company actively collaborates with our project team in the area of zeolite materials development. Among the invited speakers there were dr. Stefan Henninger from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Systems, Freiburg, Germany, and dr. Juan Manuel Coronado from IMDEA Energy Institute, Madrid, Spain. Other participants were also representatives of the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian Construction Cluster, Hidria company and others.
