Doc. dr. Mateja Gosar is editor in chief of the of scientific periodical review Geologija. Geologija is a central Slovenian scentific journal with a 50 year history and tradition. It has an international advisory board. In Geologija publish Slovenian and foreign authors. Contributions cover the fields of geological mapping, stratigraphy, paleontology, mineralogy, mineral deposits, hydrogeology, environment protection, geochemistry, geohazards, seismology, geoinformatics and related activities.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5636866At joint International Workshop of Mexican, Hungarian and Slovenian researchers titled Significance of historical small scale ore processing for mercury dispersion at Idrija area, were selected case studies which are presented in this book. Idrija and its mercury mine have a unique status in Slovenian geology and even wider in natural sciences. As a consequence of environmental awareness that began 30 to 40 years ago another branch of research developed – environmental geochemistry. Researchers in the field of geochemistry have fully taken the advantage of Idrija’s past activities and invisibly transformed the area into the natural laboratory to study long-term impacts of mercury on the environment. That is why the experience, research results and knowledge sharing between experts tackling the challenges of mercury’s impact on the environment are so important. These were the main drivers of the joint Workshop of Hungarian, Mexican and Slovenian researchers and the papers published in this book are a solid proof that the abovementioned goals were achieved.

COBISS.SI-ID: 264613888Work on this project is the continuation of previous work. The waters act transferred the responsibility of protection of water bodies used for abstraction or for public drinking water supply to the government of RS. The intention of the program is to obtain expert groundwork of water protection areas which will correspond with the Rules on criteria for determination of water protection area. In 2012 the completions for several decres were prepared (Ljubljansko Barje, Postojna and Cernica, Škofja Loka and Gorenja vas, Jesenice, Sežana, Litija, Brežice, Dravsko polje, Novo mesto and Bled et al.)

COBISS.SI-ID: 2110037The INCOME project is intended for the establishment of an effective management of contaminated aquifers. The project connects procedures for discovering and supervising sources of pollution, and measures for improving the condition. The two primary objectives of the project are to develop an integrated decision making support system (DSS) for management of aquifers and the proposal of a feasible/accepted program of activities for sustainable management of extremely vulnerable “urban” groundwater in the alluvial aquifer below the highly urbanized area of the Municipality of Ljubljana.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2080597In May 2012 dr. Mihael Brenčič, member of research group was invited lecturer at Eötvös Loránd University – Budapest Hungary at the Department of Physical and Applied Geology. In the frame of visiting professorship he presented lectures on karst hydrogeology to master and PhD students. During the visit in Budapest the event entitled "Short consultation on groundwater bodies" at National Institute for Environment, Budapest was organized. Inside this event he presented three lectures dedicated to results of his research in the past years, among them were investigations of transboundary water bodies and aquifers in Karavanke region, drinking water protection and analyses of the road influences on water resources. The whole day event was organized in cooperation with Hungarian national chapter of International Association of Hydrogeologist with the attendance from the whole Hungary.
