The quartz sand from five Slovenian localities was admixed with stored wheat and examined against rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae) in laboratory conditions. All samples showed some insecticidal effect on adults of rice weevil. However, the insecticidal activity of natural sand samples was lower than that of the commercially available cleaned quartz sand (Plantella). The results are an important contribution to the development of environmentally friendly insecticides.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1038069The results of many years of research on teeth of cave bear were presented. The main conclusions are: 1) Longevity of cave bear was not reduced in comparison with present-day brown bear. 2) Like in brown bear teeth obviously sustained feeding for at least 20-25 years. 3) From this point of view there is no indication of markedly different diet. 4) Maximum life span of cave bear was 35+ years.
