Paper presents a prediction of vortex rope in a draft tube obtained by numerical flow analysis. The main goal of the research was to numerically predict pressure pulsation amplitude versus different guide vanes openings and to compare the results with experimental ones. Three turbulent models (SAS-SST, -RSM and LES) were used. Also the effect of different domain configurations, grid density and size of time step on results was examined. At first analysis was done without cavitation, later at one operating point the cavitation model was included.

COBISS.SI-ID: 24543527The most important result of the research work is to make unsteady numerical analysis using CFD and reduce the number of model tests. The most characteristics of the turbines can be predicted before the real model is produced. This is the main reason how the development time is reduced and obtained better characteristics. Also from environmental point of view the results are important, because of more efficient usage of renewable energy sources.
