The international scientific meeting Slovene Dialects in Contact IV convened the most notable experts of dialectology, of the following universities and institutions: University of Trieste,University of Pula,University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor, University of Graz, University of Klagenfurt, University of Primorska, SRC SASA, University of Zagreb and University of Udine. The main theme of the meeting was linguistic intertwining in border areas in the light of Romanic-Germanic-Slavic linguistic interference. The material from the scientific meeting will be published in the proceedings.

The researchers were faced with some questions that are more extensively presented in each chapter. These questions are related to influences of different education programs, microenvironment of being and gender on the linguistic knowledge, knowledge of coexisting communities and youth (from elementary schools in ethnically mixed areas) points of view.

The Conference was divided into five program sections, where the many experts from Slovenia and abroad, as well as representatives of the political departments discussed language policy and education and of the European models of two-/multilingual education.
