MTs are stress proteins involved in multiple resistance mechanisms of cancer cells. Their presence, inducibility and metal interactions were followed in glioblastoma cell line (U87) after exposure to arsenic trioxide. The results showed clear MT increase, Cu increase and low levels of arsenic imobilisation by MT.

COBISS.SI-ID: 240184320On average the sum of arsenic species in blood plasma/serum of acute promielocyte leukaemia and multiple myeloma patients treated with arsenic is roughly 20% lower from total arsenic concentration in the same samples. In a case of blood cells the difference is even bigger indicating a large pool of "unvisible" arsenic in patient's body, which can only be seen with invasive methods including total digestion of samples.
