Anaemia is a stimulus for increased level of endogenous Epo production, while in cancer patients its level decreases due to chemotherapy, treatment with rHuEpo or presence of TNF and IL-1. In the aim to address these co treatments effect on the level of endogenous Epo in cancer patients several samples from cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and with/without rHuEpo were collected and analyzed with IEF method. The effect of chronic rHuEpo treatment on the expression of genes was analysed on several breast cancer cell lines.

Urine and blood samples were obtained from two metastatic cancer patient treated with chemotherapy with or without rHuEpo, analysed with isoelectric focusing (IEF) with the aim to determine the effect of chemotherapy and rHuEpo treatment on the level of endogenous Epo.
