We published a scientific article with a description of the mechanisms for haloadaptation in extremely halotolerant black yeast H. werneckii. We described accumulation of glycerol and other polyols at increased salinity. Furthermore, we propose a role of melanization in the retention of intracellular glycerol. Interestingly, H. werneckii retains a fluid membrane and a relatively unchanged amount of sterols despite changes of salinity, whereas glycerol loss from the cell is diminished by the melanized cell wall.
