Results obtained by a laboratory flux measurement system (LFMS) focused on investigating the kinetics of the mercury emission flux from contaminated soils of the Idrija Hg-mine region are reported. Knowledge about parameters controlling Hg emission from contaminated surfaces presented in the manuscript was used for development of the GIS Hg emission model. Manuscript is available at Web of Science.

XANES spectroscopy was used to study the speciation of mercury in different geological samples from Idrija region, including contaminated soils, sediments and mining residuals. In this way, we assessed the mobility and potential bioavailability of Hg in contaminated surfaces. The results will be used for development of environmental scenarios. Manuscript is available at Web of Science.
