Stem cells are pluripotent cells with unlimited potential to differentiate into specialized cells of all tissues/organs, where they are responsible for tissue self-renewal ability and can therefore be utilized in regenerative medicine.Clinical use of stem cells especially requires high tech expertise and equipment.Recently, we have established a Centre of excellence for Stem Cells in Disease and Therapy (CMC).

COBISS.SI-ID: 2336591This is a multinational (36 partners) integrated project of the research of proteinases in cancer. The goal of the project was to study the involvement of all extracellular proteases, needed by cells for their communication with the tumour microenvironment and their complex roles in the origin and cancer development. It contributed to understanding of the proteolytic processes in initiation and development of cancer and to development of new cancer therapies. Numerous scientific collaborations were established and at the end of the project, a monography was published (Cancerdegradome book).

COBISS.SI-ID: 2371185CETO Conference is organised every second year with growing international participation of European and American scientists. Its significance is in combination of basic and applied research with clinical studies to promote the transition between laboratory research and the patients’ treatment. CETO Conference contributes in establishing scientific connections and increase mobility between Slovene and international groups.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26380761Several members of our research groups were also the members of Organising Comittee or presented their work. International meeting was organised in a form of a relaxed workshop that enabled the younger scientists on the field of invasiveness of glioblastoma to present their work and to take an active part in the discussions that followed the presentations.
