Dr. Tanja Pipan, the leader of the project, is also country coordinator for the Slovenian Long Term Ecological Research Network. International Long Term Ecological Research (ILTER) is a global network of research sites located in a wide array of ecosystems worldwide that can help understand environmental change across the globe. Establishment of a Slovenian network of sites allows Slovenian scientists to address ecological issues on broad spatial and temporal scales in an interdisciplinary way and to understand the role of biological diversity in ecosystem processes.
